Too many tags?

I find tags useful for searching directories. Sometimes I will browse the Blogger listings by interests such as music. However, these “personality tags” often have nothing to do with the blogs listed.

After typing all of the Firemind tags I can see that things will get messy for me without some form of script to handle the tags. Furthermore, I wonder if I should use the extra tags at all because my goal is a short description of each tumblelog.

I will probably limit tags to country, language and the four general ones.

Edit: I cut back on tags and made some optional.

Submission Guide

Findr uses tags to categorize blogs. Tags allow people to find blogs by language, country, and interests. Some tags are mandatory and some are optional.

Choose a few tags that describe your blog add an optional short desciption and then fill out the Submission Form. When we receive the information your blog will be listed.

Format:

Your Tumblelogs Name - required

Your Tumblr URL - required

Country - optional - this will be used as a tag. Combine multiple words - for example use unitedkingdom not United Kingdom or UK.

Language- optional - this will be used as a tag.

Description - optional - Keep it short and precise. One or two sentences at the most.

Tags that describe your tumblelog. (maximum 4) - required - Try to choose the general tags that best describes what you post about. Stuck? then use “uncategorized”.

When entering multiple tags separate them with commas.
